I see that people have +/- to their "karma", does karma do anything to the use them self or is it just to show new people who is a good/bad poster. Also, what do the ranks do (newbie, great nerfer, jr. nerfer, etc)? I know that the admins and other high ranks get to ban people and stuff, but what do the lower ranks do? Thanks.

Only MODS and admins have banning powers and the ability to lock threads etc etc.
The regular ranks (great nerfer, jr. nerfer etc.) don't really do much of anything except tell how much that person has posted. I might do something else with them later(like make a secret board) but they don't serve much perpose at the moment.
As for karma, its just a indicator of how people view you as a poster. Let say you don't like what that person said or he was being a jerk....You would minus his/her karma. But if you agree to what the person said, or like what you see you would add to the person's karma.
