Title: Nitefinder Mod (Smaller Pictures)
Post by: nerfingnoob on May 29, 2007, 07:30:01 pm
Alright, I got back from the store today with nothing to do but kill some time before driver's ed. I already have a NF but I screwed it up so it doesn't get it's max range. I got another one today and this is a GREAT gun to start off with. Next to the LBB, all you do is poke around a bit and get up wards of 60 feet.

1) Obviously, open you gun. Here is what is inside. We will be focusing on the barrel.

2) You can choose to unscrew the barrel or not. Anyways, just pop the end of the plunger off and 3-4 items will come out. Here is the air restrictor, peg base, and stock barrel. Throw the spring and pronged piece away. You can throw the stock barrel out but save the end of it. The piece that comes off the stock barrel at the end of the gun. You can throw away the spring and pronged piece.

3) Take the peg base and rip the stick off, I used my fingers to do it.

4) The next piece is either still in the plunger or it came out with the other pieces. It is a well lubed circle with an "X" in the middle on one side. Get out you dremel and dremel a hole through it. Be sure to not break the pegs holding the middle piece. Here is before and after:

BEFORE

AFTER

5) Take your barrel material (CPVC, PETG, brass, etc) and your cut off peg base. Use some epoxy if possible or hotglue to glue the barrel to the highest 'mound' on the peg base.

6) Optional: Take your stock barrel piece that you saved and carefully sand/dremel it until you barrel fits snug inside. Took me one stab with the dremel to do it. This will help keep the barrel stable if you used glue.

All done, very clean and simple and looks nice. No ranges yet but I can get across my 60 foot basement with deadly accuracy. It is a cheap, reliable gun that is great for beginners and experts. Enjoy!

Isnt that hard to make the barrel fit?

I did mine a little differently but this looks good. Every Nerf site needs at least one NF mod....Thanks!

It isnt hard at all. The hot glue may be a little weak to hold it but epoxy would work better. Just take your dremel with a drum sanding bit and poke it through the stock barrel. Took me about 2 seconds and keeps it perfectly snug and straight.

Yes, get some really large grit sand paper and go at it. If you know someone who has a dremel just ask them, it is the easiest and most accurate way. Other than sandpaper, get a really, I mean, REALLY sharp knife and chisel away at it. Keep checking it by shoving some barrel material in it to see how much you need to go. You want it as tight as possible so it keeps it up.

Its would be tough, but you could use a drill too....I modded my LS with a drill. It took forever but it ended well.

I always used to have to use my drill. I loved and hated it at times. Just make sure its a good sized bit. I still recommend a dremel. I got one at my Home Depot for 35$. Thats cheap compared to others I think. It works fine and hurts .

Cool, 2000 posts. Good job on the website by the way. If you haven't used a dremel yet, I highly recommend a pair of safety goggles and a mask to prevent dust from being inhaled. When I dremel PVC I get a fine dust that doesn't look to healthy to breath in. You don't NEED to do it but I would recommend it.

Well, I would have made the hole cleaner and that would have given you cleaner air flow.  The NF is good all around, but I like the 1st and 2nd version better.  This one doesn't look so good.  The spring may be a little bit better.  I would have used other ways to clean the barrell because that looks really sloppy.  IF you did what I think you did than that was really smart.  IT provides barrell support and accuracy.  PVC dust doesn't hurt, it just makes you cough.

I would dremel it out better but I had driver's education in 10 minutes so I needed to wait (which I didn't want to do) or do it now. My fingers don't like my dremel either, already have like 7 cuts from it. That makes 29 cuts total from Nerf Modding, ouch. Actually, one of those was from stupidity. I tried to sand my finger nails, DON'T TRY THAT. But I agree General Cole, make it as smooth as possible.

Edit: Cleaned the hole more.

My mommy says I am special every day, yay for mommy! Yay!  :undecided:No, I am normal, and drivers education is a.k.a drivers ed? You learn how to drive, I just turned 15 in December.

Oh, that is what I was thinking.  I was just confused and thought that you meant something else.
